The writing of “Boots in the Bayou” felt like a fever dream inspired by Ethan showing off his new boots. It was late at night, and all of us were tired, so we were definitely working with less sanity than usual. As we spouted random quips about boots, someone said the words that became the opening line of the song. We were hooked by the alliteration, and then chose to use a lot of internal rhymes as well. While the lyrics sound quite random, each section is inspired by things of recent occurrence in our lives.
