Genre: Alt-Rock

This song is my cry to God, asking Him to take away the harsh words that cloud my brain and threaten to spew out of my mouth whenever I start to lose composure. In a time of sorrow, I was walking from my car and asking God what I should do and say to people who were hot-tempered at the time. Then, as I was pouring my heart out to my friend, and I realized my pain made me want to use foul words and I had to physically bite my lip so I could re-articulate and not burn her ears like mine had been. I realized I needed to change.
“God Help Me” is set in the key of C minor because I think it captures the anguish I feel over my conviction. I also specifically chose to have the bass guitar play parts of the melody to increase the gravity of the song. Lyrically, I leaned heavily into fiery and toxic imagery because they show the damage that words can do. In other imagery, a line I would like to point out is at the end of the bridge, “before I cross the Rubicon and all that’s said can’t be unsung.” The Rubicon river is famously known for being crossed by Julius Caesar, the point of no return for the war.
