The song starts in the key of B minor, emphasizing the heavy atmosphere that the lyrics describe. We began with an introductory verse that describes the distressed emotions we feel using imagery. The next two verses acknowledge those feelings and describe the state of the world. In the pre-chorus, the melody makes a slight transition to the enharmonic, D major, as the lyrics start reminding us of the beauty in the world. The shift becomes clear harmonically in the chorus as the lyrics turn our attention to hope. The B minor chord at the end of the first chorus takes us to the bridge, which is a moment of anguish as the singer hopes for the listener to understand.
